Blu-ray Options
Creating a Blu-ray show has a few different options because the video
format and HD possibilities change the game a bit. Let’s cover what options
you have available when creating a show on Blu-ray.
Video Settings is where you’ll choose the resolution, compatibility and
quality options for your Blu-ray. The first step is to select the video
resolution. Your options are:
• 1920x1080 Progressive (1080p) is the highest current standard
for HD content. 1080p looks great, showing off the best your high
megapixel images can offer. When you think of ‘HD’ you’re
usually thinking of this.
• 1920x1080 Interlaced (1080i) is similar to 1080p, but the
“interlaced” description means that not every line of video is
rendered. Interlaced video leaves a gap every other line to reduce
the amount of video data that is sent. This will look slightly
inferior to 1080p.
• 1280x720 Progressive (720p) is another HD standard, which still
looks great and is progressively rendered, meaning that all of the
lines are created in full.
You can also adjust the Video Encoding, Framerate and playback Quality
options. By default, these settings are set to match the typical quality you
would get when purchasing a Blu-ray movie from the store (MPEG2,
Framerate: 29.97 fps, High Quality (25mbps).
Unless you are making a disc for a specific geographic region (NTSC for
North America, PAL for Europe), 99% of the time, you will not need to
change these settings,
The only time you may want to consider changes is if you're seeing jumping
or skipping during playback on a Blu-ray player. In those cases, try
adjusting the Quality to a lower setting. Keep in mind, that regardless of the
setting, your show will still have HD visual quality.
